2015 Fair Haven Firemen’s Fair Friday, Aug. 28th to Saturday, Sept. 5th

2015 Firemen’s Fair Friday, Aug. 28th to Saturday, Sept. 5th (closed on Sunday’s)

Friday and Saturday: 6p-11p Monday-Thursday: 6p-10p

FerrisWheelToday’s Firemen’s Fair The annual Fair Haven Fire Company Firemen’s Fair is the largest firemen’s fair in New Jersey and is the second largest fair of any kind in the state. Today’s Fair is an exciting family activity that attracts people of all ages from throughout New Jersey.

The firehouse grounds are transformed into blazing lights, sounds and activities, including rides like the Zipper, Rainbow, Wipeout, and a large ferris wheel. There’s also a merry-go-round, train and other rides tailored for the smaller folks.

But for the future firefighters, there’s nothing like a ride on a real fire truck! Children are safely seated on one of Fair Haven’s first-line pumpers and taken on a ride around several blocks in Fair Haven. No child forgets the thrill of a ride with the siren blaring and the engine roaring!

MApFood is one of the main attractions, with a sit-down dining room featuring local seafood specialties and an “Out-Back” kitchen that serves hamburgers, hotdogs, cotton candy and ice cream.

In addition to being the Fire Company’s main fund-raising event, the Fair serves as an “end-of-summer” event for members of the Fire Company and other volunteers who pitch in to work at over 30 booths and in other activities.

BowlingHistory of the Fair Haven Firemen’s Fair The Fair Haven Fire Company has produced Firemen’s Fairs for most of its 100-plus year history, except during the years of the World Wars. The first Fairs, starting in 1906, were more like carnivals than the Fair as we know it now. In the days of the “old Fairs” the events were usually held on the first week of August on a small lot on River Road that is now the site of the Fair Haven Municipal Building. Wire-walkers and chances on two autos were among the attractions, in addition to the usual booths with spinning wheels of chance. The highlight of the evening was the chance to swing on the dance floor with your partner to the tunes of a live band — for the sum of 10-cents a dance! In 1936 a Chrysler Royal Sedan was raffled at a cost of 3 shares for 25-cents.

ZipperIn 1954, new state gaming laws put an end to the games of chance, thus ending the “old Fairs.” In an effort to raise funds without the benefits of the Fair, the Fire Company turned to weekly bingo games at the Firehouse, along with door-to-door collections. In early 1960, state gaming laws changed once again, providing an opportunity for the Fire Company to renew its Fair. Having stored all of the gaming equipment over the years, the firemen were ready to go and the Fair was reborn.

For many years, a key draw to the Fair was the Fair Haven Fairraffle of a new automobile. During the summer months proceeding the Fair, the car would be prominently displayed at the front of the Firehouse. The excitement of the final Saturday evening of the Fair culminated with the drawing of the winning raffle ticket. But, like all other changes, automobiles became less attractive to families who increasingly owned multiple vehicles, including top-of-the line SUVs. So, the Fair Company discontinued the automobile raffle in the late 1990’s and replaced the event with a “Super 50-50” event in which the winner walks away with 10s of thousands of dollars — free to spend on a car or anything else of interest. This event has proved to be very popular and will be continued until cash prizes are no long of interest (whenever that might be).

ROAD TRIP ~ DESTINATION JERSEY SHORE ~ HIGHLIGHTING BELMAR NJ

Belmar 4

BELMAR NEW JERSEY

The party spot for all ages on the Jersey Shore.  Belmar is a beautiful community blessed with small town charm, rural beauty, and a rich community life with an abundance of recreational activities enjoyed by visitors and residents alike. It is located off exit 98 on the Garden State Parkway and is an easy shot from Phili, New York and Northern New Jersey.

belmar_njThe Borough of Belmar’s beaches and boardwalk are open on a year-round basis, but swimming is only permitted when lifeguards are on duty.  During the summer we invite you to swim, sun, fish, surf, boogie board, and kayak on our clean, safe, sandy white beaches and to stroll on our beautifully landscaped boardwalk. Our mile long boardwalk offers incredible panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Belmar NJ

ACCOMMODATIONS

Belmar’s wide variety of accommodations welcomes you to a perfect getaway any time of year. Rent a cottage for the week, book a convenient motel, be pampered at a charming bed & breakfast or dock your boat at Belmar’s marina. Whatever your choice, from modern hotel to historic home, you’ll enjoy a relaxing seaside stay.

Top-TenIn May 2014, Belmar was voted the #1 beach in Central Jersey in the Top Ten Beaches Competition, and #6 in all of New Jersey. Though we only stretch across a mere 1.3 miles of New Jersey’s coastline, we have been working incredibly hard to make a big impression on both the visitors and residents of Belmar.

2015 – NEW AMMENITIES

~ Cell Phone Charging Stations on Every Block

~ Water Bottle Filling Stations at each playground

~ More Playground Equipment for little ones at 4th, 8th, 12th & 16th Avenues

~ Beach Chair & Umbrella Concession at 6th Avenue Beach

Belmar 3Belmar strives to offer the cleanest and healthiest beach environment for our residents and visitors. Our 7th Avenue Beach was ranked the highest in New Jersey in the “Testing the Waters” Report done by the Natural Resources Defense Council. Our beach staff cleans and grooms the beaches every morning, and we strictly enforce restrictions that prohibit smoking on the beaches and boardwalk.

Belmar prides itself on having clean, safe and fun beaches for families of all kinds. Our beaches are home to the most playgrounds in New Jersey. They were built with children’s fun and safety in mind, and are a great place for the whole family to enjoy. It is convenient for parents to take their children to the beach parks, as there is one located at about every 5 beaches.

Surf Camp 3In addition to this series of colorful and fun beach playgrounds every few blocks, several of our beaches are devoted to activities like boogie boarding, kayaking and surfing. We even offer a surf camp at 3rd Avenue Beach, where kids of all ages can take surfing lessons. For older beachgoers who prefer dry land activities, several of our beaches are equipped with poles for volleyball nets. And even if you don’t have your own equipment, it’s usually easy to join a game.Surf Camp 4

Our boardwalk has been completely revamped and replaced with Trex—a composite material made of wood and plastic fibers that eliminates the possibility of getting a splinter. It’s a wonderful place to walk, jog, people-watch or just relax and enjoy the Ocean views. In addition, well-maintained restrooms are located every few blocks and we are constantly making improvements to our facilities and beautifying our boardwalk and dunes.

Belmar is also one of the most accessible beaches in New Jersey. We were one of the first towns to install Mobi-Mats to many of our beaches. These hard surface ramps continue down midway through the beachfront and provide universal access for anyone with a wheelchair, walking aid, or baby stroller.

BELMARBelmar’s season beach badges are priced at $55 — the cheapest among local shore communities — but only $15 for 62 and older individuals, and individuals with disabilities. Click Here for a description of the acceptable proof required for the discounted badge.

Daily beach badges are $8 for individuals 16 years of age and older. We also partner with NJ Transit to create packages which make family beach visits more affordable for our customers; you can save up to $6.50 when you purchase your beach ticket in addition to a daily beach badge on the train.

MIlitsryActive duty military members and their dependents are welcome to enjoy Belmar beach for free, and new this year, all Monmouth County Fire and First Aid Volunteers will be given free access to our beaches as well. Please click here for the flyer with the details about these programs.
