BELMAR NEW JERSEY
The party spot for all ages on the Jersey Shore. Belmar is a beautiful community blessed with small town charm, rural beauty, and a rich community life with an abundance of recreational activities enjoyed by visitors and residents alike. It is located off exit 98 on the Garden State Parkway and is an easy shot from Phili, New York and Northern New Jersey.
The Borough of Belmar’s beaches and boardwalk are open on a year-round basis, but swimming is only permitted when lifeguards are on duty. During the summer we invite you to swim, sun, fish, surf, boogie board, and kayak on our clean, safe, sandy white beaches and to stroll on our beautifully landscaped boardwalk. Our mile long boardwalk offers incredible panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Belmar’s wide variety of accommodations welcomes you to a perfect getaway any time of year. Rent a cottage for the week, book a convenient motel, be pampered at a charming bed & breakfast or dock your boat at Belmar’s marina. Whatever your choice, from modern hotel to historic home, you’ll enjoy a relaxing seaside stay.
In May 2014, Belmar was voted the #1 beach in Central Jersey in the Top Ten Beaches Competition, and #6 in all of New Jersey. Though we only stretch across a mere 1.3 miles of New Jersey’s coastline, we have been working incredibly hard to make a big impression on both the visitors and residents of Belmar.
2015 – NEW AMMENITIES
~ Cell Phone Charging Stations on Every Block
~ Water Bottle Filling Stations at each playground
~ More Playground Equipment for little ones at 4th, 8th, 12th & 16th Avenues
~ Beach Chair & Umbrella Concession at 6th Avenue Beach
Belmar strives to offer the cleanest and healthiest beach environment for our residents and visitors. Our 7th Avenue Beach was ranked the highest in New Jersey in the “Testing the Waters” Report done by the Natural Resources Defense Council. Our beach staff cleans and grooms the beaches every morning, and we strictly enforce restrictions that prohibit smoking on the beaches and boardwalk.
Belmar prides itself on having clean, safe and fun beaches for families of all kinds. Our beaches are home to the most playgrounds in New Jersey. They were built with children’s fun and safety in mind, and are a great place for the whole family to enjoy. It is convenient for parents to take their children to the beach parks, as there is one located at about every 5 beaches.
In addition to this series of colorful and fun beach playgrounds every few blocks, several of our beaches are devoted to activities like boogie boarding, kayaking and surfing. We even offer a surf camp at 3rd Avenue Beach, where kids of all ages can take surfing lessons. For older beachgoers who prefer dry land activities, several of our beaches are equipped with poles for volleyball nets. And even if you don’t have your own equipment, it’s usually easy to join a game.
Our boardwalk has been completely revamped and replaced with Trex—a composite material made of wood and plastic fibers that eliminates the possibility of getting a splinter. It’s a wonderful place to walk, jog, people-watch or just relax and enjoy the Ocean views. In addition, well-maintained restrooms are located every few blocks and we are constantly making improvements to our facilities and beautifying our boardwalk and dunes.
Belmar is also one of the most accessible beaches in New Jersey. We were one of the first towns to install Mobi-Mats to many of our beaches. These hard surface ramps continue down midway through the beachfront and provide universal access for anyone with a wheelchair, walking aid, or baby stroller.
Belmar’s season beach badges are priced at $55 — the cheapest among local shore communities — but only $15 for 62 and older individuals, and individuals with disabilities. Click Here for a description of the acceptable proof required for the discounted badge.
Daily beach badges are $8 for individuals 16 years of age and older. We also partner with NJ Transit to create packages which make family beach visits more affordable for our customers; you can save up to $6.50 when you purchase your beach ticket in addition to a daily beach badge on the train.
Active duty military members and their dependents are welcome to enjoy Belmar beach for free, and new this year, all Monmouth County Fire and First Aid Volunteers will be given free access to our beaches as well. Please click here for the flyer with the details about these programs.
Whether you’re in the mood for fries, pizza, raw bar on the boardwalk or an elegant meal at a Zagat-rated restaurant, Belmar boasts some of the Shore’s best eateries. Enjoy the view and the cuisine at classic bistros or choose from any of our new American, seafood, authentic ethnic and vegetarian restaurants.
Downtown Belmar offers numerous culinary options, including authentic Mexican, Cajun, Italian and old-fashioned American fare, and many restaurants offer sidewalk tables for people watching.
In the warm months there is always something going on downtown. Beautifully restored classic automobiles are abundant on Cruise Nights, fresh New Jersey fruits and vegetables are available at the weekly Farmers Market. Pyano Plaza hosts live entertainment weekly and retail merchants offer a wide variety of products.
Downtown Belmar is a “must visit” on your vacation itinerary.
Parking in Belmar
Spaces for parking in Belmar are provided along the boardwalk on Ocean Avenue. In the summer months these spaces are metered and require that users pay 25 cents per every 15 minutes that the space is occupied. As an alternative to using quarters, Belmar also offers parking cards that work with the meters. The parking cards can be purchased for 20 dollars at any one of our 7 ticket booths dispersed along the boardwalk and will carry over from summer to summer. In addition to metered beach parking, spots can also be found along the residential streets of Belmar and in parking lots at the train station and marina.
Visitors may also choose to travel to Belmar by boat. Belmar Marina is home to the largest number of transient dock spaces in Monmouth County with 70 boat slips, and docking for the day is free!
The Belmar Marina is one of the premiere marinas along the Atlantic coast. Less than a half-mile from the ocean, with 7′ mean low water depth, floating cement docks, full security and services, there is no better place to tie up.
The marina’s amenities include state-of-the-art concrete floating docks, 5-minute boat access to the ocean, deep channels, more than 70 dedicated transient slips, and a
modern, secure and well-maintained “comfort station” with restrooms, showers and coin-operated laundry facilities. We have also refurbished our pier, installed a new floating dock, and added a new ramp that is big enough for two boats to utilize at the same time, making it faster and easier for boaters to enjoy their experience at Belmar Marina. Also, we have added a second comfort station in the northern marina for boaters to use at their convenience.
New to the Belmar Marina is the 9th Ave Pier—a new tiki bar/restaurant for residents and tourists alike to enjoy. The restaurant itself is located amongst the commercial fishing boats and personal slips. Patrons can easily look out over the water of the Shark River Inlet and observe recreational and commercial water activity while enjoying dinner and live entertainment. The 9thAvenue Pier Restaurant is comprised of a portable kitchen, a raw bar, a rectangular bar, and seating arrangements looking out on every angle of the Shark River Inlet. An additional hexagonal bar will be added in the upcoming weeks.
Belmar Marina is only steps away from our town’s downtown and its many shops and restaurants, from casual to fine dining. Belmar’s magnificent beaches are a mere 8 blocks away—a short and easy walk that will take you though the residential neighborhoods of this quaint and beautiful town.
For non-boat owners, Belmar is home to one of the largest and most modern party and charter boat fleets in New Jersey. Party boats offer ½ and full day fishing trips that accommodate fishermen and women of all levels. Come catch your dinner and enjoy a fun and relaxing day on the beautiful Atlantic. Also, for those who prefer to fish in the harbor or the inlet, outboard motor boats and rowboats are available for rent.
